Download
Get the build for your computer from the download page. It runs on:
- macOS 13 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
- Linux, 64-bit (x86-64), as an AppImage, a
.debor an.rpm
The phone apps are still in development. Every build there is, for every release, is on GitHub Releases.
On macOS and Windows, the first time you open it, your computer warns you that the app is not signed yet. That is expected, and the next two sections show how to get past it, once; Linux has a section of its own. After that, Getting started is the tour.
The macOS warning
The app is not yet notarized with Apple, so the first time you open it macOS says “Apple could not verify ‘Ubimate’ is free of malware”. Click Done, not Move to Trash.
On macOS Sequoia (15) and later:
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Open Anyway next to Ubimate.
- Confirm with your password or Touch ID when asked.
On older versions of macOS, move the app to your Applications folder first, then run this once in Terminal:
xattr -cr /Applications/Ubimate.app
The Windows warning
The installer is not yet code-signed with a trusted certificate, so Microsoft Defender SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC” and flags it as coming from a new publisher. To go ahead:
- Click More info in the SmartScreen dialog.
- Click Run anyway.
Notarization for macOS and a code-signing certificate for Windows are both planned, and these warnings go away with them.
Installing on Linux
On Debian, Ubuntu and their relatives, the .deb installs
Ubimate with your other applications; on Fedora and openSUSE, the
.rpm does. For example:
sudo apt install ./Ubimate_*.deb
sudo dnf install ./Ubimate-*.rpm
The AppImage runs on any distribution without being installed, but it is downloaded without permission to run. Allow it once, in your file manager’s Properties or in a terminal, then open it:
chmod +x Ubimate_*.AppImage
If it still does not start, with an error that mentions
libfuse.so.2, the system is missing FUSE 2, which AppImages
need and Ubuntu has not installed by default since 22.04. Install it, as
libfuse2t64 on Ubuntu 24.04 and later:
sudo apt install libfuse2
Updates
The desktop app updates itself. When a new version is ready, a banner says “Ubimate version is available.” Click Update, then Restart now when it has downloaded. What changed in each version is in the changelog, and the newest build is always on the download page if you would rather install it by hand.
Reporting a problem
Write to hello@ubimate.com. It helps most if you include:
- the version of Ubimate, and of macOS, Windows or your Linux distribution;
- what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead;
- a screenshot, if the problem is something you can see.
Please do not send a copy of your workspace unless we ask for it, and never send your password: nobody here needs it, and nobody here will ask.
A security problem is different — send it privately to security@ubimate.com, as the security page describes.
